Although some readers may perhaps appreciate poetry for its technical mastery, to many readers the quality of poetry will largely depend on the sympathy and emotion evoked by the poems. Love poems by Carol Ann Duffy may not be so attractive to readers who are looking for a sensible celebration of love, unless the reader is willing to accept adultery as a legitimate form of love. Most poems in this collection are written in free verse.
