Our City Paperback
The first in a new series of "OneCity" books (crime and London to follow in 2009), this is a cracking collection of specially commissioned stories for upper primary school children, by nine of the best children's writers, who are either based in Scotland or have a Scottish background.
All stories will include themes relevant to the work of the OneCityTrust.
It is beautifully illustrated by author and illustrator John Fardell (Canongate Kelpies, Viz).

Review by heidialice
This is a collection of children's stories by authors with a connection to Edinburgh, all of which take place in Edinburgh. Most are set in the present day, but a couple are historical, and a few are fantasy versions of the city. The collection is a bit uneven. The first story, "All Change" by Jonathan Meres, was probably my favorite. Well-written in an engaging style, and with no hint of talking down to kids. Weakest in my view was "Friends Forever" by Cathy Cassidy. The story of a group of friends, including one from Kurdish Iraq, was preachy and inauthentic, though the topic of refugees in Britain is certainly timely. Worth the purchase to check out unfamiliar authors and to experience through stories the magic that is Edinburgh.
