The Sapeurs of Bacongo, a small central part of Kinshasa live their lives dedicated to fashion and style, living according to a code, where a true gentleman wears no more than three colours. Tamagni follows them as they go by their lives, and teaches us a small part of their philosophy. Gentlemen of bacongo is full of fabolous outfits, often more stylish than eccentric, but mostly a mixture of both. All in all very light on text, and as a reader, one is often left a little bit wanting on the side of substance. On the other hand, the slightly surreal sight of these men casually walking through the dirty streets, with a completely spotless outfit makes up for it. All in all, an insight in a fascinating subculture ´chock full of creativity, fun, and a genuine love for fashion.

An excellent cultural reference on the Sapeur culture, a pacifist movement of Congolese dandy's who dress elegantly to reconcile their country and hold great respect amongst the impoverished streets they reign. Worth a look!
