Another great series in the New 52. This is a great introduction into Hal Jordan a.k.a. the Green Lantern if you don't know much of his background. This tale doesn't start from the "beginning" but it does a good job of setting up the characters. Also, Sinestro is a pretty good semi-villain in this one, giving Jordan the chance to return himself to the life he once loved.

The Green Lantern series clearly carries a long history, and while this volume is part of the New 52 reboot, it feels more like a continuation of past events then a fresh start. No origin material here, or background biography on Sinestro or Hal Jordan. The story begins with Sinestro's forced reentry into the Green Lantern Corps, and his subsequent discovery that the Yellow Lanterns have disregarded his orders and enslaved his people. He can think of only one person that will join forces with him: Hal Jordan. Things haven't been going so well for Jordan. He is inundated in debt, his relationship with Carol is stagnant, and he is desperate for his ring. When Sinestro comes to him, they don't get along, but eventually Jordan agrees to help his former enemy. After all, he will get his Green Lantern power back.Even though the comic doesn't take much effort to bring in the new reader, I still enjoyed the collection. So long as new readers have a general idea of the Green Lantern mythos they won't feel too lost. I didn't need to know why Jordan lost his ring or Sinestro had one to appreciate the current plot line. Once I accepted that a lot has transpired before this point, but this is where I am now in the characters' lives, I could sit back and enjoy the ride. The plot was full ahead action, a fun space drama, and tantalizing bits of romantic entanglement. The pairing of Sinestro and Hal Jordan was a classic presentation of unlikely partners prevailing. I'm not so fond of the art work, but find the dynamic characters and the story line interesting enough that I will continue to pursue the series in ebook format.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to Green Lantern; his universe seems so complicated to try to fathom. But I'm a big Justice League fan and bought this volume when the ebook was on sale for $1.99. My favourite GL and the only one I really know is John Stewart,so I've been having to get to know Hal Jordan. For a newbie this was a pretty good introduction, even though it has picked up with a complete background to the story already in progress, everything was explained quite clearly and I knew what was going on. Geoff Johns is one of my favourite writers in the New 52 and he pulls off a good story here bringing a complete plot to conclusion in the one volume and setting the storyline up for the continuing arc. I really liked Sinestro! He's a good guy turned villain turned good guy who's really a bad guy. LOL. An anti-hero ... or is that anti-villain? Anyway the kind of bad guy you love to hate. Will look for Vol. 2.
