Review by

This is what you (if you're like me) look for in every piece of junk reading: taut, witty, surprising, with some not too scary elements and a plausible romance. Since it was first published in 1977, the sums of money for which people work and risk their lives seem risibly small by today's standards, and the clothes and haircuts of the men wildly improbable. The plot keeps the pages turning, but every now and then you have to stop to laugh or savour a turn of phrase.
