Deep going, and frequently extremely boring. Braudel was more than a bit of a snob, too, and many cultural references in this book, originally written in 1962, are politically incorrect. Still, over a 6-8 week period, I managed to finish the silly thing,

Full of sweeping generalisations and inaccuracies, I'd like to think this is of use only as a record of how far the study of history has come.
