An engaging and informative book about hedgehogs. Hugh Warwick has studied hedgehogs for many years. So we learn about the little creature that inhabits our yards and fields but more than that he tells a great many endearing hedgehog stories. Hugh did not fall in love with the hedgehog immediately and his reason in the beginning for studying hedgehogs was pragmatic. Much work in the field, meeting hedgehog-obsessed people and realising the need to preserve the hedgehog and it's habitat did lead to a love of the animal for him. As a reader you can't help finding yourself if not in love, at least gaining a great deal of affection for them.
