A mildly dreary survey of the nomenclature issues surrounding concepts like ELF (English as a lingua franca)and EIL (English as an international language;Jenkins spends too much time on these relatively simple issues), catalogue of the stupidities that the total abandonment of language ownership and prescriptiveness concepts elicits even in nominally progressive sociolinguists, grammarians, etc. (and here, too, too much time expended--if Quirk and Trudgill think old-mannish anxiety is the appropriate response to lingua-franca English, then, at least in this regard, fuck Quirk and Trudgill, but shame them and get out of the way, don't treat their opinions like legitimate scholarship. Who cares what the "experts" think is appropriate anyway? No matter what, as Bourdieu says, "Il faut desangliciser l'anglais"), and list of features the absence or presence of which separates unitary Global English from ELF ("th" sounds, for instance, are to be avoided), which has some potential I guess. Overall much of the effort seems expended in the wrong direction.
