Review by SilverKitty
I like to sew and I like history, and this looked to be my kind of book. I couldn’t get past the first few pages. This book claims to be a “stylish history of the sewing revolution” but there is way too much unsupported inflammatory rhetoric masquerading as history to make it a good read. Example “After all, if someone were to put a needle and thread in your hand and tell you that this is all you’re good for, you mostly likely feel stifled and resentful – especially if it wasn’t something you were inclined to enjoy.” P 13 Or this: “In this century, women redefined what “domestic” meant. They were done with the Cult of True Womanhood, and done with sitting demurely in the corner, embroidering pillows.” P 21. The art is great and the projects so-so, but I am not going to waste my time reading this book.
