I've enjoyed the title for a long while, although I think it was at its peak under Mark Millar. But this...this is kind of sad. It's like Ultimate X-Men has devolved into a crazy teenage soap opera. I hate how Nightcrawler is being portrayed. Not only is he a homophobe who apparently will ditch his best friend just because he's gay, but now he's a psychotic kidnapper too. His background at Weapon X (and the probably PTSD that comes along with it) just doesn't excuse his actions in these pages, especially since they're so out of character for him. I can't see Nightcrawler doing this in any incarnation. The Magician, who is probably the first character who doesn't have a 616 counterpart, turns out to be more than the X-Men bargained for when they let him join the team. It explains some things, but I could have done without him in the Ultimate Universe at all. At least he's more than a Gary Stu now.I'm almost dreading reading the 16th trade in this series, even though it features one of my favorite 616 characters: Cable. I'm scared of what will be done with him!
