The definitive book of stories from Arthurian legend, featuring the Knights of the Round Table, Wizard Merlin and King Arthur and Queen Guinevere.
These fascinating ancient tales are retold by Rosalind Kerven, author of the bestselling English Fairy Tales and Legends which is also published by National Trust.
With plots full of romance, adventure and enchantment, these stories are revived by the author to reflect their origins in oral history and appeal to a whole new generation of readers.
Stories include Elaine Who Loved Sir Lancelot, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Tristan and Isolde and The Enchantment of Merlin, many of which have recently been adapted in modern cinema and remain a fascination within contemporary culture.
The book also features detailed notes on each story and mentions specific places in Britain with Arthurian links, including National Trust properties such as Tintagel.
Beautifully illustrated throughout with images inspired by Arthurian legend.

This is hardly definitive, yet highly readable, fun & also covers most of the bases, in terms of an introduction. The links to what sourced the stories, the variants, and why they arose, is very well done. I would recommend reading the sources & further information chapters immediately after reading the chapter concerning the tale itself. It has a great bibiliography section which is very informative. Would prompt further reading & understanding of the folklore itself. Not complete, but a great introduction. Those looking for a more detailed summary or chronicle best look elsewhere
