Our Wartime Days : The WAAF, Paperback / softback Book

Our Wartime Days : The WAAF Paperback / softback

Paperback / softback

Description

This book tells the story of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during the years of the Second World War through the eyes of those serving at the time.

Reminiscences and anecdotes describe in vivid detail what their lives were like from recruiting to demobilisation, and a wealth of photographs, mostly taken by the women themselves.

From the issue of uniforms and first nights in the barrack hut, WAAF members recall the variety of their experiences and their memories of being witnesses at vital moments of the war.

For many of the women, some called up on National Service, this was their first time away from home, and they recall the strangeness of Service discipline and rules, the pleasure at cocking a snook at authority, the food and spartan accommodation.

Young and cheerful, they discovered humour in adversity, formed lasting friendships and shared and unbounded admiration for the pilots with whom they served.
