Keeping the Dead Paperback
Part of the Rizzoli & Isles series
HE HIDES. When an ancient mummy is discovered in the basement of a museum in down-town Boston, excitement starts to mount.
Under the glare of a media frenzy, the mummy is taken to hospital for a CT scan.
Forensic pathologist Maura Isles is also invited to attend.
HE KILLS. As the CT scan proceeds everyone in the room leans in - and gasps in horror as an image of a bullet is revealed.
Maura declares it a possible homicide, and calls in detective Jane Rizzoli.
HE KEEPS. When the preserved body of a second victim is found, and then a third, it becomes clear that taking their lives is not enough for this terrifying killer. And that unless Maura and Jane can find and stop him, he will soon be adding yet another chilling piece to his monstrous collection.

Review by the.ken.petersen
This is a good, easy going read. I salute Tess Gerritsen for maintaining the delicate balance between mawkish desire to be shocked and bad taste: something few modern authors can achieve. The story is tight and packed with twists: even when the case appears solved, there's a new twist. I have oft said that I do not like foreign crime stories. This is because, so often, details of law/protocol are at variance with that of Britain. This book is much more concerned with the characters, thus avoiding the problem. The book is peopled with believable characters in an unlikely scenario: this, to me, is the basis of good literature.

You know what to expect from a Tess Gerritsen. Would however like to see more of Maura. Plenty of gore and didn't guess who had done it !
