I had no intention of reading this. I was aware this book had been languishing on my to-read bookshelf for a very long time and in that time I'd only ever taken it off the shelf, flicked through the pages, and put it back. Today I thought I'd get around to some weeding and adding a few items to my give-away bag. So I grabbed this book, had a flick through and then ended up on one end of the sofa finally reading this thing.

It's a great little introduction to those masters of the seeeee-eeeea, the vikings. The book is filled with lovely colorful illustrations and I particularly like the short documents section at the back of the book which has samples of some literature, including the Eddas, the tale of the death of the god Baldr, an account of a funerary ritual (quite graphic, I found), some information on Runes, boats, the siege of Paris. the discovery of America, etc.

Along with the bibliographical references, I found the guide to be a pretty good source of information, particularly for someone who might be thinking about dipping their toe into this corner of history. Goodread.
