A little bit about us
We are the new independent bookshop in Market Street, nearly opposite the Town Hall. You can identify us by our colourful striped window blinds!
We came to Chapel at the beginning of December hoping to bring a community style bookshop to the area, so far we have been hugely encouraged by local people for the need of such a shop. Our shop is friendly and inviting and browsers are most welcome. Over the coming months we are building on our stock and talking to customers to find out what else they would like to see on the shelves. With our ordering service we are able to get most books within the week.
We have a range of Ordnance Survey explorer maps, local guides and maps for walkers and cyclists and books on the history of the Peak District.
For children we have colouring books, sticker books, paints and crayons, felt tips, student materials, puzzles as well as fact and fiction.
For the artists we have paints, brushes, sketch pads and books on artists and different mediums of art.
Our aim is not just to sell books but to hold various events based in the shop throughout the year. So far we have Knitwits, a knitting and crochet group for both beginners and the more experienced, meeting on a Thursday evening alternate weeks. We hope in future weeks to widen the type of crafts we do.
On Friday March 1st Reading Matters Book Group starts meeting once a month and a Creative Writing Course will
run over 6 weeks from the end of February.
On Saturdays Children’s Story Time is held in our children’s room for the under 8’s from 11.30 for half an hour, with stories, rhymes and songs. Remember though you are never too old for story time!
Visiting authors and poets will be dropping in from time to time and Matt Black, Poet Laureate for Derbyshire, is here on May 8th.
