Drawing upon the prominent and generally progressive financial services sector in Scotland, this report examines profiles of voluntary family-friendly employment policies (FFPs) adopted by a sample of companies. It outlines how they operate and assesses the ways in which employee participation can contribute to the establishment, maintenance, development and effectiveness of the policies and provision of benefits. Based on in-depth studies of six organisations, this report highlights effective family-friendly policies and outlines how they might best be adopted. With the broad political agenda in employment relations committed to voluntarism, social partnership and balance between work and family, this innovative report is particularly timely and offers an insight into family-friendly employment policies and organisational decision-making.
