• Very enjoyable. Bennett has a great facility for creating an intriguing story from the most mundane of circumstances, and his characters always seem immensely plausible.This selection of stories from his famous Five Towns captures a little bit of everything -lovelorn suicides are mixed in with hilarious portrayals of greatness stooping to folly, as when the Deputy Mayor drives a flock of geese home through the streets of the Five Towns.I am really pleased to have discovered the pleasures of Arnold Bennett, but just wish i had started reading him far earlier.
