Description

Can a man be maimed by witchcraft? Can a severed head speak? Based on the most notorious of English witch-trials, this is a tale of magic, superstition, conscience and ruthless murder. It is set in a time when politics and religion were closely intertwined; when, following the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, every Catholic conspirator fled to a wild and untamed place far from the reach of London law. This is Lancashire. This is Pendle. This is witch country.

  • Based on the most notorious of English witch trails, this is a tale of magic, superstition and murder. Can a man be maimed by witch craft ? Can a severed head speak ?This is Lancashire. This is Pendle. This is witch country. My Thoughts:This is such a short book, only 194 pages and big writing so I actually read this book on an hour. The witch trails is something that I always find interesting so when I see a new book out on the subject I can’t wait to read it, but this book was a let down. For the content of the book I would have liked to have read a more complex and deeper story. I actually felt I was reading a book for children although I wouldn’t say the content was suitable for a child. The story was gripping and at times very dark and disturbing, there just wasn’t enough of it. If I read a book based on history I like to become totally engrossed with the historical facts and with the fiction thrown in. This book wasn’t thick enough to get stuck in.Not enough book on a fascinating period in history.
