  • A classic book for young children everywhere-- few books have the power to fuel imagination like this one. I read this to my third graders and was worried the vocabulary was too advanced and antiquated but I was thankfully wrong! My students loved the characters and the "strange words" they used. A true classic.

  • This is one of my favorite children's novels, a classic fantasy that is widely acclaimed. The story follows four children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy who have been evacuated from London at the beginning of World War II. They are sent to live with a professor in England, where they discover a mysterious wardrobe in one of his empty rooms. They soon discover that the wardrobe serves as a door to a magical world called Narnia! In Narnia the children meet a faun named Tumnus, the White Witch, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, and a majestic lion named Aslan. This is a fantastic story for all ages.

  • “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” is a children’s modern fantasy novel by C. S. Lewis and is a very strong allegory of the Christian gospels. “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” is centered on four children who find a magical land known as Narnia. There they battle against an evil witch with the help of a Lion who represents Jesus Christ. In the story many mythical creatures appear and help or hinder the adventurers. “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” is an epic good beats evil story that has magic and sword fighting. Together “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” has all the ingredients of engaging young readers to want to experience this wonderful tale.“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” was one of the first books I ever read by myself. I remember when my father bought it. He was a teacher at the time and was reading it to his class. I remember looking at the cover of the book and then threw its pages, the illustrations were so beautiful, and they had an old magical feeling to them, like being at my grandmothers snuggled up to a fire and at a magical kingdom at the same time. Michael Hague was the illustrator to that edition of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Better yet each painstaking word I deciphered as I read brought those pictures to life, and I fell in love with reading. When I finished reading this magnificent story again today, I felt every feeling I felt when I first read it as a child. An extension idea would be to have the class discuss what allegories are, and to find and research other allegorical works. I always wanted to have a class play of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” a wonderful idea for a teacher.
