Description

Double-bill of films about coming-of-age. In 'Billy Elliot' (2000), young Billy (Jamie Bell) becomes fascinated with the ballet lessons which are being held in the same hall as his boxing class. The ballet teacher, Mrs Wilkinson (Julie Walters), recognises his potential and encourages him to join her class. As his talent gradually reveals itself, it becomes clear that Billy should be attending the Royal Ballet School in London, but with his father's opposition and the extreme poverty which descends on the area during the strike, Billy's future is far from certain. In 'Sixty Six' (2006), it is the summer of 1966, and England is about to be consumed by World Cup Fever. For 12-year-old Bernie (Greg Sulkin), the biggest day of his life is looming - his Bar Mitzvah, and the day he becomes a man. However, Bernie's family are increasingly distracted by the threat of losing their business and their wayward older son, and the scale of Bernie's Bar Mitzvah diminishes daily. Worst of all the World Cup Final is scheduled to take place on the same day and when England makes it through to the final, Bernie's longed-for Bar Mitzvah looks set to be a complete disaster.

Also by Stephen Daldry, Paul Weiland and Julie Walters
