The Hungerford Bookshop is an award-winning independent bookshop situated in this historic West Berkshire town. We have a wide range of new and old books and hold regular author events (sign-up to our mailing list). We also stock cards, book tokens, DVDs and notebooks. We are an Ordnance Survey Mapping Centre. We welcome browsers and are happy to offer book recommendations.

    Adam Nicolson is an award-winning writer and presenter  including 'Sissinghurst' which saw him turn his home of Sissinghurst Castle in Kent into a restaurant for the National Trust. As well as a book of the same name, he has written 'The Sea Room', 'When God Spoke English: The Making of the King James Bible' and 'The Smell of Summer Grass'.

    On Tuesday November 11th he will be talking about his new book, 'The Gentry: Tales of the English' that explores the history of England through fourteen remarkable families.

    Adam Nicolson is the son of writer Nigel Nicolson and the grandson of Vita Sackville-West  and Sir Harold Nicolson. He is married to Sarah Raven.
