Mary Kubica is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of four novels, including The Good Girl, Pretty Baby, Don’t You Cry and Every Last Lie. A former high school history teacher, Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in History and American Literature.
Mary had loved to write since she was a little girl, but it remained a hobby until 2005, when her daughter was born and she left her teaching career to stay home and care for her. It was then when she could devote any free time to writing.
She now lives outside of Chicago with her husband and two children, where she enjoys photography, gardening and taking care of the animals at a local shelter.
She describes herself as an “early bird” – she loves getting up around 5am to write, when the house is quiet and her family is still asleep. Even though she squeezes her writing life into the early morning hours, the plotting and brainstorming happen at all hours of the day or night. “I tend to write when I feel moved to write and don’t force myself to meet a certain word count each day”, she says. Her favourite place to write is her own kitchen, where she hides away with by a cat – or two, or four! – to keep her company.
