Meet the Author - Joanna Cannon

Joanna Cannon graduated from Leicester Medical School and worked as a hospital doctor, before specialising in psychiatry. She started writing for therapy on a blog, and little did she know she would end up leaving her job as a psychiatrist and becoming a full-time writer with two published novels and a deal for a further two. “I wrote that blog to understand myself more”, she explained to The Guardian, “I think reading and writing is the best way of understanding your narrative from a safe position… reading is also an escape more than anything else”.

Her first novel The Trouble With Goats and Sheep was a top ten bestseller in both hardback and paperback and was selected for the WHSmith Richard and Judy Book Club.

Cannon’s second novel, Three Things About Elsie, tells the story of 84-year-old Florence, who has fallen in her flat at Cherry Tree Home for the Elderly. As she waits to be rescued, she wonders if a terrible secret from her past is about to come to light; and, if the charming new resident is who he claims to be, why does he look exactly like a man who died sixty years ago?

She lives in the Peak District with her family and her dog.
