Meet the Author - Marcia Williams

Marcia Williams is an award-winning author and illustrator who has published over thirty books and is renowned for her retellings of classic stories. In her distinctive, entertaining and accessible comic-strip style, Marcia has tackled thousands of years of history from the Stone Age to the Second World War, and introduced some of the greatest stories of all time, including the works of Chaucer, Dickens and Shakespeare, to a new audience. Her humorous approach has made her hugely popular with young readers, parents, teachers and librarians alike, and her bestselling Shakespeare retellings are firm favourites of many classrooms. Marcia’s awards include the UKLA Children’s Book Award for Archie’s War and the English 4-11 Picture Book Award for The Stone Age: Hunters, Gatherers and Woolly Mammoths.

In 2019 Marcia published her first novel for children, Cloud Boy, a moving story about friendship and growing up, inspired in part by the true story of a quilt made by Girl Guides in Changi Jail during World War Two. It was praised by Michael Morpurgo as an “extraordinary … truly memorable book”. Marcia is also a much sought-after panellist at literary festivals and educational conferences. She lives in London.,
