The Cold Nowhere, Paperback Book
4 out of 5 (1 rating)

Frozen with fear, teenage orphan Catalina Mateo makes a chilling plea to Detective Jonathan Stride.

Help find the figure hunting her - a murderer with a blade that bites like the Midwestern winter.

Stride's raw instinct is to protect Cat, whose late parents' case still sends a shiver down his spine.

But his gut also tells him what he's up against - a cruel killer, whose heart is a frozen void.

Review by

The Stride books are getting a little predictable. Stride has personal connection with someone involved in one or more killers. Evidence points to one direction, but in the end it's a heretofore bit player that's the culprit. In this book, Jonathon is reunited with Cat, a 16 year old prostitute whose mother Stride once had an affair with but failed to save her when her husband stabbed her to death in an apparent murder-suicide. We don't know why Stride is suddenly interested in Cat's welfare, you'd have think he'd have intervened long before she started turning tricks. It seems she was a guest at a part hosted by a sleazy car dealer/politician, and that's when someone tried to kill her.Last book had Stride's long time girlfriend and fellow cop Serena leaving after Stride slept with his partner, Maggie. She left -- but not far away, taking care of business that came up at the end of that story. Stride/Maggie didn't last very long. Now Serena is back, sort of, to help with this case. There's some hope for them yet. Much of the book dealt with interpersonal issues that came up between Stride, Serena, Maggie, and even Cat. More to come I'm sure in the next book.
