Chau Chak Wing Museum : The University of Sydney Paperback / softback

Part of the Director's Choice series

Paperback / softback

Description

The Chau Chak Wing Museum - opening in 2020 as part of the University of Sydney - is the stunning new home for the collections of the Macleay Museum, Nicholson Museum and University Art Gallery.

As well as being a significant addition to Sydney's rich cultural life, this landmark building provides state-of-the-art facilities for the enjoyment, care and research of objects spanning arts, humanity, nature and the sciences across millennia. The University of Sydney's cultural and scientific collections began as a core set of antiquities purchased by Sir Charles Nicholson, first Chancellor of the University.

These collections have grown in size and breadth and are now one of the largest holdings in the southern hemisphere: they include some of the earliest known Aboriginal bark paintings, Ancient Egyptian artefacts, Greek vases, entomology specimens and modernist artworks.

Through colourful imagery and Director David Ellis's sharp commentary, this volume beautifully traverses the range of natural phenomena and human achievement showcased by these extraordinary collections.
