Filmed over a period of three months, Demme follows Carter as he conducts lectures, debates, book signings, and tours of radio stations, hounded constantly by a voracious press pack, intent on challenging his controversial thesis.
Throughout the film, Carter's boundless energy and calm patience is much in evidence, challenging the notion that those who have held the highest office should retire gracefully from public life.
