Application of Number: Schedules and Timetables 1 Paperback / softback

Edited by Dr Graham Lawler

Paperback / softback

Description

Reading a timetable is fundamental life skill but it is something that many people find difficult. Whilst modern technology is useful, where there are competing opportunities, digital technology cannot help you to determine if something is possible. Similarly that there are digital signs at many bus stops, they cannot help you plan a journey.

That underlies the purpose of this book. In the first section, students are placed in a fictional scenario of a film festival in Abergele ( the Welsh home of I'm a celebrity, Get me out of here). Here students have to interrogate a database in the form of a table, to see if they can attend certain films at certain times. In the second part of the book, they are given scenarios where they plan visits across North and South Wales, by looking up bus times. This is a highly popular book with SEN/ALN teachers and home educators and no wonder. As well as coming with a disc of copiable sheets, there is also a piece of work for the students which involves a 1970's supergroup.

There are also smartboard activites and other goodies for f*r*e*e* on the disc. You will not be disappointed and your students will love the work.
