Part of the Penguin Great Ideas series
Throughout history, some books have changed the world.
They have transformed the way we see ourselves - and each other.
They have inspired debate, dissent, war and revolution.
They have enlightened, outraged, provoked and comforted.
They have enriched lives - and destroyed them. Now Penguin brings you the works of the great thinkers, pioneers, radicals and visionaries whose ideas shook civilization, and helped make us who we are. The Stoic writings of the philosopher Seneca offer powerful insights into the art of living, the importance of reason and morality, and continue to provide profound guidance to many through their eloquence, lucidity and timeless wisdom.

This book was a good start to the Great Ideas series and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of them. I am not an expert on the literary aspects of the book but as for the content, I think there are many still relevant themes in Seneca's writings such as appreciating each day and life in general while not remaining stuck on our misfortunes. I liked the general optimistic world view in the book and agree that we should remember the difference between just existing and actually living our lives. However, I found that I disliked his categorisation of worthwhile pursuits which seemed to include little aside from philosophy.
