And the politics gets more complicated and the characters more bogged down in details. Schuyler Van Alen needs to read the vampire manual, Mimi and Jack are still squicky, and several other characters do things that appear out of character, but are they? It's interesting and I do want to read what happens next, but this story didn't really engage me and I felt like everything happened near the end. Until the end I really thought about abandoning this series.

Like the previous books in the series, this one started off pretty slow, but it quickly gained pace as it went on. The characters were a lot more solid in this one- something which I'd been hoping for. I do find it quite difficult to keep up with the extremely complex family ties, but thankfully they don't appear to hold much importance anyway. The ending was confusing. There was a lot of action in a short space of time, but I definitely enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to seeing the plot develop more.
