Interesting read. Blends fiction and non-fiction. Charley is really an everyman, a man who is in the trenches in World War I, in this one we see two other stories that intersect with his. The first part, of three, is mostly told from watching Hitler as a young man and his trench experiences, it was interesting to see him as he's fighting opposide Charley. The second portion is Charley's brother Wilf who is in the Flying Corps, he's trying to become an observer but the pilots are a bit unhinged from the stress and he's almost in more danger from them than from the enemy. He also encounters an issue where he has to make a decision about shopping a fellow grunt and the consequences. The final part features Charley as well and further adventures.Thought provoking and interesting it's worth reading.
