In this volume, photographer Reiner Riedler (born 1968) photographs machines that save lives or improve patients' well-being--inventions such as dialysis machines, respirators and cardiac pacemakers at a hospital in Vienna.
The work was inspired by Riedler's son, who was in a neonatal intensive care unit as a newborn.
