What a strange, wonderful and emotionally wrenching book. The philosophy parts were not as revelatory for me as they were the first time I read this, over 20 years ago, but that is hardly surprising. What is surprising is that anyone should write up such a bold search for truth in such an engaging way, by mixing travelogue, father and son tale and long (and still engaging) chunks of pure philosophy.
