The Rise and Fall of Margaret Thatcher: The Collection, DVD DVD

Double bill of BBC docudramas based on the life and times of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. 'Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley' (2008) is a light-hearted drama charting the rise to power of the Iron Lady.

Portraying Thatcher (Andrea Riseborough) as an attractive 25-year-old, the story follows her repeated attempts to gain a seat in what was, in the 1950s, a strictly male-dominated Conservative Party.

The film spans a period of ten years in Thatcher's life, from working as a research chemist, to meeting husband Dennis (Rory Kinnear), to dealing with the behind-the-scenes manoeuvering that threatened to curtail her political career, before her final hard won success in Finchley. 'Margaret' (2009) portrays the last years in Thatcher's political career.

It is 1990 and support for Thatcher (Lindsey Duncan) within the government is beginning to waver.

When long-serving politician Geoffrey Howe (John Sessions) resigns over Thatcher's attitude to Europe, his resignation speech sparks a chain of events that ends with the dramatic downfall of Britain's first female prime minister.
