Gunnerkrigg court book one is about Annie, a girl who has recently lost her mother, starting a new school. It soon becomes obvious that the school isn't what it should be and that Annie has a personal connection here that she never knew about. This book has wonderful art and a wonderful gothic feel. Sets up a lot of mysteries to be addressed in future books and some great female friendships. Good times.

A delightful first volume to a quirky graphic novel series. There are all sorts of interesting ideas on display, and hints of an intriguing backstory for the adult characters, but what really gets me is the wonderfully unflappable and deadpan mien of the main character, twelve-year-old Antimony Carver, who takes all the weirdness in her stride. I definitely want to read more of her adventures!
