Description

Andra Day stars as American jazz singer Billie Holiday in this biographical drama directed by Lee Daniels.

In 1947, despite enjoying international success, Holiday finds herself targeted by the federal government for her refusal to cease performing her popular but controversial song 'Strange Fruit'.

Knowing that she is a heroin addict, Harry Anslinger (Garrett Hedlund)'s Federal Bureau of Narcotics arrests Holiday for possession of narcotics, causing her to spend the next year in jail.

When she is eventually released, Holiday, unable to overcome her addiction, faces a struggle to rebuild her career.
