Severn Valley Railway Recollections : The Big Flood, Paperback / softback Book

Severn Valley Railway Recollections : The Big Flood Paperback / softback

Part of the Railways & Recollections series

Paperback / softback

Description

In this volume we look back to 2007 when disaster in the form of two torrential storms, befell the Severn Valley Railway.

On the night of June 19th 2007 and coincidentally exactly one-month later on July 19th, heavy rain fell on already saturated ground causing major damage to the line in no fewer than fortyfive separate locations.

At ten of these locations the damage was so serious that major engineering solutions had to be found before reconstruction could commence.

A flood damage disaster appeal was launched which raised over GBP500,000 which together with further help from Heritage Lottery Fund and European Regional Development Fund provided most of the finance for what turned out to be a GBP3,500,000 repair bill.

The work took nine months to complete.
