Hopetoun : Scotland’s Finest Stately Home, Hardback Book

Hopetoun : Scotland’s Finest Stately Home Hardback

Hardback

Description

Hopetoun House, on the Firth of Forth near Edinburgh, is the seat of the Marquess of Linlithgow.

The lavishly illustrated book presents the architecture (initially designed by Sir William Bruce in the 1690s and greatly extended by William Adam and his sons from the 1720s), sumptuously decorated rooms and art collection, as well as the landscape and gardens. This volume discusses Hopetoun both as the historic seat of a noble family and as a complex work of art.

It covers its architecture, interior design and furnishing, its collection of paintings, its designed landscape and also the family who have built, inhabited and developed it since the late 17th century.

The text is a joint production by eminent specialists.

Appealing photographs of the interiors by Frank Dalton and of the new Walled Garden by Claire Takacs form an important part of the book.

Chapters written by members of the family, Lord and Lady Hopetoun as well as Lord Alexander Hope, connect the historic place to the present and the future of the etate.
