The Lost World of Sarala Devi : Selected Works, Hardback Book

The Lost World of Sarala Devi : Selected Works Hardback

Edited by Sachidananda (, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Orissa, Koraput) Mohanty

Hardback

Description

Sarala Devi was a multifaceted personality. Not only was she a poet, novelist, translator, and critic of great distinction, but also a freedom fighter, feminist, activist, social reformer, and educationist.

She made significant contribution in building up a modern Odisha and in the use of literature for social critique and transformation.

She advocated a larger role for women in the public sphere. Despite her prolific oeuvre, her work has completely disappeared from the public domain.

This collection fills the gap by tracing her historiography through its compilation of some of her best writings, translated from the original Odiya.

These include prose, fiction, short stories, plays, and tales for children.

The work stands at the intersection of gender, translation, and cultural history in the interdisciplinary context and contributes significantly to the making of Indian feminism.
