A little bit about us
A new independent bookshop in the heart of Margate Old Town, the Margate Bookshop stemmed from a desire to create a space that would be inviting to a wide audience, through which to encourage a larger involvement in reading.

The Margate Bookshop was first launched August 2017 as a pop-up bookshop within the Turner Contemporary art gallery during the Margate Bookie literature festival. The response from the local community was overwhelming and hugely positive, and the permanent bookshop now follows after three years.

Books range across various subjects, combining new and secondhand. The Margate Bookshop aims to serve as a literary hub within the town centre, hosting a series of readings, book signings, book club meetings, poetry slams and even small gigs.

A small café serves tea and coffee for customers to enjoy while browsing, and upstairs a Writers’ Room offers a friendly co-working space.
