4 out of 5 (1 rating)

The Yellow on the Broom is the fi rst part of Betsy Whyte's autobiography.

Not only is it a fascinating insight into the life and customs of traveller people in the 1920s and 1930s, it is also a thought-provoking account of human strength and weakness, courage and cowardice, understanding and prejudice by a sensitive and entertaining writer.

Review by

This is the story of Betsy a Scottish traveller child. Scottish travelling folk are not Romany gypsies - although there are some links. Many have clan names and use cant a Scottish traveller language which includes variations of gaelic and old Scots words. Betsy is a true storyteller, and the book is a delight.
