Australian poet Chris Wallace-Crabbe was born in Richmond, Victoria in 1934 and educated at Scotch College, University of Melbourne.

He has worked as a lecturer in English at the University of Melbourne, the University of Exeter and as a visiting Professor at Harvard University.

In 1987 he was awarded the quinquennial Dublin Prize by Melbourne University for achievement in the Arts and Sciences.

This is Chris Wallace-Crabbe's second book of poems to be published internationally and follows The Amorous Cannibal (OUP 1985), which widened a reputation already established in Australia. "I'm Deadly Serious" displays a wide range of poetry, from playful ballads to mystic pieces, embracing European, American, and Australian influences.
