Apology, Paperback / softback Book

Apology Paperback / softback

Part of the Poetica series

Paperback / softback

Description

Apology is David Wesley Anderson's second edition publication of the 2017 micro poetry book. It is the third and final book in the series that includes Simply You and Only You. Once again, David takes his micro poems and creates a story about love and all its many failures to find its possible victory.

Following the structure of the previous two books in the poetic series, Apology has four sections. The Rain, The Maelstrom, The Sky, and Wraiths come together into one story about redeeming love for the poet, his muse, and their relationship. "When we saw the end we held tighter..." implies the downtrodden aspects of the love tale, leading into one of the last poems with the title, "We Must Make Due." In between, Apology is full of longing and hints at the inevitable remnants of love pulling at both the poet and his muse to return to each other.

Like the first edition, Apology still poses questions to identify the purpose of the title: Who is apologizing? What happened? Who wronged first? Who damaged all the love? There's a powerful focus on metaphors about the cosmos, from "sudden cosmic collision" to "a thousand million worlds." These ideas help create the energy of the poems as an ongoing cycle of building and rebuilding after destruction. David's use of long form keeps each poem creatively independent, but together in Apology, they are a conclusive narrative in the series after Simply You and Only You. When David urges his muse to "Let us make our own reality," the reader becomes part of that creation in the pages of Apology.
