Absolutely superb if slightly disturbing. After her mother is convicted of murder, Astrid Magnusson spends her teens surviving a series of dysfunctional foster homes. Meanwhile, her mother seeks to retain psychological control from her prison cell. I may just have to add Ingrid Magnusson, the mother, to the list of most evil characters in fiction.
