Songs of the Cockroach Book

Book

Description

Songs of the Cockroach is a novel set in 2004. It has several themes and sub-plots. There is no doubt that it is a satire; its objects of ridicule principally the corrupt leftovers of the apartheid years.

A few of these are white liberals, corrupt policemen, remaindered white politicians, still clinging grimly to their racist prejudices but exhibiting outward facades of democratic goodwill and intention.

They have gathered under the convenient camouflage of a South African political alliance, part of the official opposition to the dominant African National Congress.

Being secretly shared out among these last few relics of white rule in South Africa is the looted booty of the forty-six years their forebears held power.
