Description

Ruby Wax - comedian, writer and mental health campaigner - shows us how our minds can jeopardize our sanity.

With her own periods of depression and now a Masters from Oxford in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy to draw from, she explains how our busy, chattering, self-critical thoughts drive us to anxiety and stress. If we are to break the cycle, we need to understand how our brains work, rewire our thinking and find calm in a frenetic world.

Helping you become the master, not the slave, of your mind, here is the manual to saner living.

Ruby Wax is well known as a comedian and writer. Less well known is her complete mental breakdown and how she earnt a Masters from Oxford in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy. In her practical and informative book she details how our busy, chattering, self-critical thoughts drive us to anxiety and stress and how to rewire our thinking. At times this book was overwhelming and I had to take a break to read a fiction title, but it was totally worthwhile making it to the end. Near the end there are exercises to help. Well work a read.

Some fascinating thoughts in here, especially about how we live our lives looking for fame/acceptance etc. I'm not entirely convinced by the mindfulness working, but not anti it - and if it works for Ruby who's to knock it (and how post-modern is that!)There are four separate sections and lots of research to back up what she says. Ruby is honest, the text is interspersed with parts of her life story that go to explain where she is coming from.Really worth reading to make you think
