Description

Tony Robinson narrates this documentary celebrating 100 years of one of the world's most famous trains.

Entering service in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway, in 1934 the Flying Scotsman became the first steam locomotive to officially reach 100mph and in 1989, it set another record for the longest non-stop run by a steam locomotive, travelling 422 miles while on tour in Australia.

After covering over two million miles, it was retired from regular service in 1963 and passed into private ownership before finding a permanent home with the National Railway Museum.

Interviews with former owners Alan Pegler and Sir William McAlpine are included.
