Description
Claudio Abbado conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra and Chorus in this 1975 performance of Verdi's romantic opera.
King Gustavus III (Plácido Domingo) is in love with his secretary's wife Amelia (Katia Ricciarelli).
He visits a fortune teller who informs him that he is to be assassinated by the next person to shake his hand; this turns out to be Amelia's husband Renato (Piero Cappuccilli).
Gustavus encounters Amelia and confesses his love to her and she responds in kind, but they are interrupted by an angry Renato.
When Renato discovers the situation, he vows to kill Gustavus, and joins the men plotting against him.
