The book's protagonist is a former senior manager in a government-run organisation.

On his compulsory retirement at 60, he set out on a new career of voluntary and charity commitments, but quickly found himself upset at changes being made in his old firm.

This set him off on frequent letter-writing to MP's and government officials - with little real success.

Driven to despair, he decided to seek a seat in the new Scottish parliament, where he thought that he might be able to pursue his grievances better.

He narrowly failed, but his leaflets and frequent letters to the Press had attracted the attention of a rich, titled and influential individual, who offered him support in the forthcoming Westminster election.

The deal included finding and backing some other candidates and it sufficed to win seats for himself and his new friends as a new party, the Federal UK Alliance.

His strong attacks on many current wrongs won support of many other candidates who expressed their support if his lot should be successful.

After a whirlwind and tempestuous journey, he climbs from an aspiring new politician, to progress to Prime Minister of Great Britain.
