About the Author:
For over 60 years, Jim has owned and trained many kinds of dogs. He and his wife, Dr. Charlene Akenhead, have bred and trained Shepherds and Malamutes. Since 1995, Jim operated Signature K-9 Training & Behavior LLC in northeastern Ohio. He offered a variety of group classes including those for reactive dogs. For many, Signature K-9 became a last resort for difficult dogs. Since 2018 Jim has lived in Virginia. His website is: www.Signaturek9dogtraining.com
Jim has 5 earned degrees, including a Doctorate in Research and Education and a Masters Degree in Counseling. He is certified as a trainer and behavior consultant by four organizations. He is listed in 7 Who's Who anthologies on leadership and has been recognized by Bowling Green University in Ohio as a Distinguished Alumni. In his local community, he was honored, along with his wife, Charlene, as Business Professional Persons of the Year. He has presented at national conferences for canine courses at universities and for other interested groups.
Jim is the author of 5 other books. He is a member of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of each. He has been the director of the National K-9 Trainers Association with members in 50 states and 30 countries. He is also a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
